Putnam County Health Department

Proposed Park Plans
Several in the community have likely noticed the removal of the basketball and old
tennis courts at City Park in Unionville. This is in preparation for some of the
infrastructure improvements that will begin this month. In a highly competitive
process, the Putnam County Health Department received grant funds from the
Missouri Foundation for Health which were then matched by 18 local community
partners. In phase one of the project, we will be getting a new 46 space concrete
parking lot and new basketball court as well as improved grading and drainage
around the new features.
This project has a been an true community effort with participation and input from the
Unionville Park Board, Unionville City Council, the 40+ residents who participated in
the master park planning process, the local Putnam County Partners in Prevention
(PCPP) coalition, and all the community agencies that are assisting with the
matching funds.
With the NACCHO money there are funds to purchase trees to replace those that will
have to be removed for grading and drainage. The NACCHO funding is also
purchasing some new park playground pieces. Additional things purchased with
NACCHO funding include benches, cigarette receptacles, bike racks, gravel for the
school’s walking trail, pedestrian signage, nicotine replacement therapy, and a
message board for the new parking lot.
Further improvements outlined in the park plans are contingent upon future funding.
